I can't believe Kingston is already one! I swear he was just born. The fact that a year has already flown by, makes me so sad. He's growing up too quick and I really wish I could hit the pause button. Nonetheless, the time came for me to plan his 1st birthday party.
I'm not into themes that involve characters. In fact, I hate them. I really do. The thought of planning a party that incorporates a children's character gives me anxiety. So, when I started thinking of themes for Kingston's party, I knew right away that there would be no Mickey, no Paw Patrol and no Elmo.
I wanted something that played into his regal name, but wasn't an overly cheesy king or prince party. That's when I thought of Where the Wild Things Are. Not only could I incorporate his name into the theme, I could also tie in his age with the Wild One saying.
We held the party in Florida so I got to work with my favorite baker, Kelly Henkel of For The Love Of Cake. Working with her is always fun. I give her my theme and she instantly sees my vision. It definitely makes the stress of party planning much easier.
Prior to Kingston's big day, we did a cake smash with Nicole from Fonzeno's Creative Expressions. We've used her for all of our pictures since living in Georgia for the past 5 years and she's awesome! She was so excited for the theme and even made the little boat he's sitting on by the water. How adorable! He wanted nothing to do with the cake during pictures, but on the day of the party, he couldn't get enough.
