I recently surprised K with a trip to Las Vegas and California for his birthday. It was our first time on the west coast and I now fully understand the saying "the west coast is the best coast". Both of us being true east coasters from New York, we never really thought there was anyplace better, but boy were we wrong. California is Ahhh-Mazing! It's seriously like the best of both worlds. You have the city, the beach and mountains. What more could one ask for?
We started off in Vegas and quickly got bored of the constant partying, with not really much else to do. After two days, we hopped in our rental and made the drive to Cali. On our way, we stopped at an awesome art installation in the middle of the desert, Ugo Rondinone's Seven Magic Mountains. It opened in May of this year and will be on display for two years. If you happen to be in Vegas, it’s definitely worth a visit.
In Cali we stayed in Venice beach, a very eclectic little area. Our hotel was steps from the beach and the air from the Pacific was so crisp and clean. We tried our first ever In-N-Out burgers, because, what’s a west coast trip without In-N-Out?! We crammed in as many things as we possibly could in our three days there. We drove the PCH, strolled through Beverly Hills and Hollywood, hiked Runyon Canyon, played some games at the Santa Monica Pier and enjoyed the sunset on the beach every single night. I can honestly say, there is NOTHING better than an LA sunset. We loved it so much that we are already planning our next trip and this time we’ll take G.
